The Real Problem

Most Covered Call Traders Get It Backwards

The #1 question new covered call traders ask is "which stock has the highest premium this week?" That's the wrong question — and it's why most covered call attempts end in blown positions and abandoned strategies.

❌ The Prediction Trader

  • Chases the highest available premium — always a warning sign
  • Ignores the stock's primary trend entirely
  • Treats high VIX as opportunity instead of a danger signal
  • Holds positions through deteriorating market conditions
  • Keeps selling premium during confirmed downtrends
  • No systematic process — improvises every week
  • Blows up one large position that wipes out months of income

✓ The Premium Harvester

  • Asks: "Are conditions right to be selling premium at all?"
  • Uses a 3-layer MA stack to confirm trend before every entry
  • Reads the Market Risk Index every Monday before touching a stock
  • Reduces aggression systematically as conditions deteriorate
  • Never sells calls on stocks in confirmed downtrends — period
  • Follows a weekly workflow that eliminates emotional decisions
  • Builds a machine that pays reliably for years — not weeks
The Core Insight

You Are Not a Trader.
You Are an Insurance Company.

"

Think about how insurance companies make money. They don't make money by being right about every claim. They make money by charging premiums that are statistically above the expected cost of claims, spreading risk across many policies, and only insuring risks they understand and can price correctly. You are doing exactly the same thing. Options are statistically overpriced on average. Option sellers have a structural mathematical edge. The Retirement Cash Engine teaches you to harvest this overpricing — repeatedly, systematically, on quality instruments.

— From Module 1: The Premium Harvesting Mindset
01
Trend

Never fight the primary trend. Premium cannot rescue a stock in a confirmed downtrend.

02
Volatility

Harvest elevated but survivable IV. IVR 30–65 is the sweet spot. Above 75 is a warning, not an invitation.

03
Liquidity

Trade only highly liquid option chains. Tight spreads, easy rolling, better fills, lower friction.

04
Risk Rotation

Adjust aggression to market conditions. Selling calls in a deteriorating market destroys accounts.

The RCE Live Browser Screener

This isn't a spreadsheet. It's not a PDF checklist. It's a fully built, browser-based trading dashboard — 152 pre-scored candidates across 9 sectors, live market data via Polygon.io, and every decision rule from the course wired directly into the interface. You open it Monday morning and it tells you exactly what to do.

Every panel maps 1-to-1 to a module. The course teaches you why. The screener shows you what qualifies this week.

⛵ FLAGSHIP FEATURE

The KMI Surf Flag

Every Monday morning the screener displays one of two flags at the top of the dashboard: Open Water or Danger Zone. It's your immediate go/no-go signal — computed from the full 100-point KMI score the moment you open the tool. No calculations needed. No guesswork. Green flag: harvest premium. Red flag: stand down.

⛵ OPEN WATER — KMI 75+
Normal to aggressive premium harvesting. Full position sizing. Delta 25–35. All 9 sectors active.
⚠ DANGER ZONE — KMI <55
Defensive income only. Minimal new positions. Raise cash. Defensive sectors only. Consider standing down.
What's Inside the Dashboard — 16 Integrated Features

Every element visible in the screener is annotated below. This is not marketing copy — it's the actual feature spec, taken directly from the production build.

1
KMI Score — 100-Point Market Health Composite
Displays the current Kahuna Market Index score live — the same 100-point composite from Module 13. SPY/QQQ trend, VIX level and trend, FOMC/CPI calendar, sector breadth, new highs vs. lows. All factored in. One number. Drives everything downstream.
2
KMI Factor Breakdown — 10 Sub-Scores Visible
Below the headline score, each KMI factor displays individually: SPY>200, QQQ>200, Slope, Breadth, VIX<20, VIX Trend, FOMC, CPI, Sectors, Hi>Lo. You see exactly which factors are dragging the score — and what would need to change to move to the next regime.
3
Delta Zone Pill — Auto-Updates with Regime
The current regime-appropriate delta range updates automatically when the KMI mode shifts. In Open Water: shows 25–35. Yellow: 18–25. Red: 12–18. One glance tells you the strike selection range to use for every entry this week.
4
Sector Heat Map — 9 Sectors Ranked by Weekly Yield
All 9 CC sectors (Semis, Energy, Financials, Mega Cap Tech, Healthcare, Industrials, Consumer, Telecom, Sector ETFs) ranked live by composite score and expected weekly yield range. Semis at top currently showing 1.8–2.5%/wk. The heat map tells you where to concentrate new positions this week.
5
152 Pre-Screened Candidates — All 8 Criteria Pre-Filtered
The universe of 152 stocks has already passed all 8 Module 4 criteria: weekly options, 3M+ volume, 1K+ OI, tight spreads, large cap, non-binary, institutional, oscillator tendency. Every stock you see is already eligible — you're just ranking and selecting from the pre-approved pool.
6
Three-Ring Composite Score — Trend + IVR + Liquidity
Each candidate displays three score rings: Composite, Trend, and IVR. All three green = enter with full confidence. One red = do not enter — the checklist has failed. Yellow = caution. At a glance, you know the quality level of every candidate in the table without reading a single number.
7
Earnings Countdown — Auto-Grays Rows Within 7 Days
Every candidate shows a live earnings countdown. When a stock hits earnings within 7 days, its row dims automatically and the ticker is flagged with a red ⚠ warning. You cannot accidentally sell covered calls on an earnings-week stock — the system removes it from the actionable list for you.
8
12-Point Pre-Trade Checklist — Live Evaluated Per Stock
Click any candidate and the right panel instantly runs all 12 pre-trade checklist items from Module 9: MRI allows, sector >55, above 50 SMA, above 200 SMA, RSI 45–75, IVR 20–75, no earnings within 7 days, no FOMC/CPI within 24hrs, OI >1,000, spread <$0.30, entry day Tue/Wed, market green. One red = no trade. Full criteria evaluated live.
9
Live Market Data — Real Price, IV, Volume via Polygon.io
Connect your free Polygon.io API key in Settings and the screener fetches live data automatically every time you click a stock: current price, day change, day high/low, volume, previous close, and live IV data from the options chain. A green "LIVE" badge confirms fresh data. Grey "STATIC" means using the pre-scored baseline — still fully functional offline.
10
Batch Live Refresh — Top 20 Candidates in One Click
Hit "Refresh Live" and the screener automatically cycles through the top 20 candidates by composite score, fetching live Polygon data for each with a 13-second delay between calls to stay within the free API tier. A progress bar shows you "NVDA (3/20)" in real time. Smart caching means data under 20 minutes old is reused — no wasted API calls.
11
Assignment Risk Score (ARS) — Tracks Every Open Position
The ARS panel monitors all your open covered call positions in real time. 0–30: hold, theta is working. 31–55: monitor. 56–75: plan your roll now — don't wait. 76–90: roll immediately. 91–100: act now, position is critical. The system tells you the right action before you have to think about it.
12
5-Tab Navigation — Full Portfolio Infrastructure
The screener isn't just a candidate list — it's a complete operating environment. Five tabs: Screener (candidate ranking), Income Tracker (weekly P&L and regime history log), Earnings Calendar (full universe sweep), Market Log (KMI history over time), and Watchlist (your custom names alongside the built-in universe).
13
Bucket Filter — Instantly Toggle Core / Aggressive / CSP / ETFs
One-click filter buttons at the top of the table: All, Core, Aggressive, CSP, ETFs, Stocks, and a Delta filter showing the current regime range. Want to see only your Core bucket candidates? One click. Only Aggressive names with the right IV? One click. The filter automatically applies the regime-appropriate delta range as the default view.
14
IVR Color-Coded Badges — Sweet Spot Instantly Visible
Every candidate's IVR displays as a color-coded pill: green badge (IVR 30–65, sweet spot — primary entry zone), yellow badge (IVR 20–29, below average — wait if possible), red badge (IVR 66–75+, elevated — conservative delta only or avoid). You see the IV environment for every candidate at a glance — no mental math required.
15
Export / Import — JSON Backup of Your Entire State
One-click export saves your complete screener state — open positions, watchlist additions, income log, KMI history — as a JSON file to your local machine. Import it back at any time, on any device. Your data never touches a server. It never leaves your machine. You own it completely.
16
Static + Live Dual Mode — Works With or Without API Key
The screener ships in two versions: v2 (fully static, works offline — no API required) and v3 (live data via Polygon.io free tier). Both are included. Use v2 the moment you open it. Add your free Polygon.io key in Settings when you're ready for live prices and IV data. Nothing breaks in either mode — v2 is a complete tool, v3 just makes it sharper.

"The screener shows you WHAT qualifies. The course teaches you WHY — and why that matters for your money. Read each module before using the screener for that module's concepts. By the time you reach Module 13, you'll understand every single number on the KMI panel because you built the logic yourself."

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Do I need prior options experience to use this course? +

Module 2 covers covered calls from complete first principles — what they are, exactly how they work, and every term you'll encounter. If you own stocks and have a brokerage account, you have the foundation to begin. Module 3 walks you through brokerage setup and approval levels specific to covered calls.

How much capital do I need to start using this system? +

A covered call requires ownership of 100 shares per contract. The minimum practical starting point depends on the stocks you choose. The system architecture in Module 16 is built around a $250K target, but the principles and workflow apply at any portfolio size. Many students start with 2–3 positions on accessible stocks like XOM, ABBV, or ETFs like QQQ.

How does the live screener work? +

The RCE Screener is a browser-based tool — nothing to install, nothing to download, no subscription. Open the HTML file in any modern browser and it runs. It ships in two versions: v2 (fully static, works offline immediately) and v3 (live market data via a free Polygon.io API key you enter in Settings). The screener includes 152 pre-screened candidates across 9 sectors, the KMI Surf Flag (go/no-go signal), 100-point KMI breakdown with all 10 sub-factors, sector heat map with weekly yield targets, three-ring composite scoring per candidate, a 12-point pre-trade checklist that evaluates live when you click any stock, earnings countdown with automatic row-dimming at 7 days, Assignment Risk Score tracking on all open positions, and five tabs: Screener, Income Tracker, Earnings Calendar, Market Log, and Watchlist. Your data exports as JSON and never leaves your machine. Polygon.io free tier API integration enables live prices, IV data, and the batch Refresh Live function for the top 20 candidates.

How much time does this require each week? +

Once the system is running, most weeks take about an hour. Monday is your planning session — KMI check, sector heat map, candidate review — typically 30–45 minutes. Tuesday and Wednesday are entry days, 10–15 minutes each. Thursday is a quick management check, Friday is expiration and logging. The weekly workflow is covered in detail in Module 17. The learning curve in the first few weeks takes longer as you build familiarity, but the operating rhythm once you know what you're doing is about an hour a week.

Is the Polygon.io data feed free, or does it cost extra? +

Polygon.io has a completely free tier that covers everything the RCE Screener v3 needs. You create a free account at Polygon.io, copy your API key, and paste it into the screener's Settings panel — that's the entire setup. The free tier gives you real-time stock snapshots, day change data, and options chain data, which is all the screener uses. There is no paid upgrade required. The screener is also fully functional without any API key at all — v2 uses pre-scored static data and works offline immediately. You only need the Polygon key if you want live prices and IV data updating in real time when you click a candidate.

What if I get assigned on a covered call — is that a problem? +

Assignment is not failure — it's a normal, expected outcome that the system fully accounts for. Module 11 covers assignment management in detail. When your shares are called away, you've already collected the premium plus sold at your strike price, which is typically above your purchase price. The system then uses a cash-secured put (Module 12) as a "paid limit order" to re-enter the position at a lower price while collecting additional premium during the wait. Assignment handled correctly actually accelerates your effective basis reduction. The only time assignment is a problem is if you're selling calls on stocks you can't afford to have called away — which is why Module 8's strike selection and Module 16's position sizing rules exist.

Ready to Build the Machine?

Stop Leaving Premium on the Table.

Every week you wait is a week of premium income that expires worthless — for someone else. The Retirement Cash Engine gives you the system, the screener, and the process to start collecting it yourself.
